Details:This client had owned this house in the Zilker neighborhood since the 1990's. Over the years, they had made the place an eclectic oasis of their own but dreamed of replacing the 1940's detached garage with a pool and full dwelling unit. The pool was in collaboration with our friends at Texas Tiny Pools.
Inspiration:The idea was to create a cozy pool oasis with bar seating for guests just off the ADU. Our design centered around a folding window that stacks at the top of the opening so that guests could be served food and drinks from the kitchen. The curvy roof structure above keeps guests shaded from the Texas sun. We had fun designing around materials that our client had already procured. Examples include the glass tiles used in the pool, kitchen and bathroom walls, and the 20 year old German bath vanity sink. Our client's love of Marfa design pulled in elements of concrete, steel and smooth stucco to create a summer oasis in the heart of Zilker.
